Businesses can choose from several types of solar systems depending on their space and energy needs. Rooftop solar is ideal for offices, warehouses, and schools with unused roof space.
Solar carports turn a parking area into a power source. Overhead canopies shelter vehicles from sun, rain, and snow while the panels above generate electricity, and that output can feed EV charging on site.
Solar carports are currently available for commercial properties. We install the SunModo system.

As a commercial roofing contractor first, we design around your roof’s structural capacity, membrane, drainage, attachments, and warranty requirements — while identifying aging roofs before installation so you don’t pay to move the array later.
Facilities We Design For
Warehouses, light industrial buildings, offices, retail, schools and municipal buildings are all strong candidates — the design questions are load capacity and roof age, and we evaluate both in-house. Where the roof isn’t the right platform, a small ground mount can work for small business sites, up to 150kW depending on size and terrain, and not utility scale.

Commercial projects still have federal investment-credit value under transition rules, and Illinois Shines runs dedicated commercial capacity blocks on top — but the rules are deadline-driven, so timing is part of the design. We put the full incentive analysis in your proposal, in writing, with the deadlines that apply to your project.
Commercial Solar Questions
Will an array void our membrane roof warranty?
Not when the attachment details are engineered with the membrane manufacturer’s requirements and documented — which is roofing work, and it’s the part of solar we’ve been doing longest. We coordinate the warranty in writing before installation begins.
Ballasted or attached racking?
Whichever your structure says. Ballasted systems avoid penetrations but add distributed weight; attached systems anchor through the membrane with flashed penetrations. We calculate both against your building rather than defaulting to a habit.
Can you install while we stay open?
Yes — commercial installs are staged and scheduled around your operations, with roof access, staging areas, and daily protection planned with your facilities team in advance.
How long from contract to power-on?
Design and permitting move quickly; the long pole is usually ComEd’s commercial interconnection review, which scales with system size. Your proposal includes a project timeline based on the current queue, not a best-case guess.
Why put the array over parking instead of on the roof?
Parking is often the clearest unshaded space on a commercial site, and a canopy carries the array when the roof cannot: age, shading, membrane constraints, or a structure that will not take the added load.
Can a solar carport feed EV charging?
Yes. The output can run charging equipment on site, so the same structure shelters vehicles and powers them.
Do you install solar carports at homes?
Not right now. Solar carports are a commercial offering. The SunModo system we install is built for commercial scale structures.
