Solar Panel Cost & Incentives in Northern Chicagoland

What a system costs here depends on the house: how much electricity you use, how many roof faces catch real sun, whether the structure needs work first, and the equipment you pick. That’s why we do the assessment before we talk numbers — and why our proposals are itemized down to the permit fees.

On the incentive side, 2026 is a different year than the ads let on. The federal homeowner credit sunset at the end of 2025, so our quotes are built on what Illinois actually pays now: Illinois Shines REC contracts (arranged through our solar division, an Approved Vendor — No. 2327), ComEd’s smart-inverter rebate, and a design tuned for ComEd’s supply-only crediting so more of your production offsets your own usage instead of exporting at a discount.

Where We Install

We install residential solar across the North and Northwest suburbs from our Lake Zurich headquarters, including Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Des Plaines, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Northbrook, Palatine, and Schaumburg — plus the surrounding communities on our areas we serve page.

SPAN MAIN 32 and MAIN 40

Choose SPAN MAIN 32 or MAIN 40 to manage home circuits. SPAN says this extends battery life by 40%, based on its study of more than 1,200 simulated outages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are solar panels worth it?

For many homeowners, solar panels are a worthwhile investment because they can reduce monthly electricity costs, increase energy independence, and potentially raise home value. The amount you save depends on factors such as your home’s energy usage, roof orientation, local utility rates, and available incentives. Our team evaluates your property and provides a customized estimate so you can determine whether solar is the right investment for your home.

Will solar panels save me money?

Yes, solar panels can significantly reduce your electricity bills over time by generating clean energy from the sun. Savings vary based on your system size, energy consumption, and utility rates, but many homeowners see long-term savings throughout the life of their solar system. Illinois Shines incentives and ComEd rebate programs can also help lower the overall cost of installation.

Can solar panels power an entire house?

In many cases, yes. A properly designed solar panel system can generate enough electricity to meet most or all of a home’s annual energy needs. The exact system size depends on your home’s energy usage, roof space, and local sunlight conditions. If your system doesn’t produce enough energy at certain times, electricity from the utility grid can supplement your power. Battery storage can also provide backup power and increase your energy independence.

How long do solar panels last?

Most high-quality solar panels are designed to last 25 to 30 years or more while continuing to produce electricity efficiently. Although energy production gradually decreases over time, today’s premium solar panels remain highly effective for decades. Regular inspections and proper installation help maximize the life and performance of your system.

Will solar panels work on cloudy days?

Yes. Solar panels continue producing electricity on cloudy days, although they generate less power than they do in direct sunlight. Modern solar technology is designed to capture available daylight, even during overcast weather. In areas like Illinois, solar systems are engineered to account for seasonal weather and still provide excellent long-term performance.

What do solar panels cost in the northwest suburbs?

There’s no honest one-number answer — usage, roof geometry, and equipment move the total by thousands. What we can promise is an itemized quote after a complimentary assessment, with the Illinois Shines REC value and ComEd rebate shown as line items rather than vague promises. Beware of any 2026 pitch built around a federal tax credit; that program ended for homeowner purchases after 2025.

Should I replace my roof before going solar?

If the shingles have less life left than the panels do, yes — and we’re one of the few solar installers that can do both in one project. Panel removal and re-installation for a later re-roof is real money; bundling avoids it entirely.

Do I need a battery with my solar panels?

Need, no. Benefit from, usually — ComEd’s current crediting pays less for power you export than you save on power you use directly, so storing afternoon production for the evening stretches the value of every panel. It also carries your essential circuits through outages. We quote systems both ways so you can compare.

What if my roof will not work for solar?

Not every roof is the right platform. Where shade, age, or usable space rules it out, a ground mount on the property is an option — we install the SunModo SunTurf ground screw system. Solar fencing is the other route when the roof is not available.
